Why Participate? Why Benchmark?
- to practice continuous improvement
- to reduce costs
- to add value
- to identify strengths and weaknesses
- to establish goals and action plans (strategic planning)
- to support business cases for change
- to identify institutions with best practices
- to learn from better performing institutions
- to gain access to the executive floor
Key Benchmarking Requirements
Humility:
- others can do some things better
Recognition:
- learning must be a continuous process
- learning from others is faster - and therefore smarter - than starting from scratch
- it's not about getting a good report card
- measurements are overemphasized, processes (practices) are overlooked
| The best organizations today, our organizational
role models, are those that use
|
| benchmarking and use it well.

Excuses for Not Benchmarking
-
We're too busy doing projects.
- ie. We're too busy working hard to learn how to work smart.
- We participated in a benchmarking survey previously and we're right in the middle of the pack.
- ie. We're happy to be average
- ie. Continuous learning is not important
