DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES & ENGINEERING

OVERVIEW 

The Baltimore Museum of Art is seeking a seasoned facilities professional to manage the Facilities and Engineering departments. This is a full time, exempt position that reports to the Deputy Director for Operations and Capital Planning. The Director of Facilities & Engineering will be responsible for the day to day operations of Facilities and Engineering departments within the operations division. T

he Baltimore Museum of Art is home to an internationally renowned collection of 19th-century, modern, and contemporary art. Founded in 1914 with a single painting, the BMA today has 90,000 works of art-including the largest holding of works by Henri Matisse in the world. Throughout the Museum, visitors will find an outstanding selection of European and American fine and decorative arts, 15th- through 19th-century prints and drawings, contemporary art by established and emerging contemporary artists, and objects from Africa, Asia, the Ancient Americas, and Pacific Islands. Two beautifully landscaped gardens display an array of 20th-century sculpture that is an oasis in the city. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

This position is responsible for managing all activities of plant operations, energy management programs, as well as facilities/custodial services. S/he will oversee all preventive and predictive maintenance programs, as well as planned and emergency repairs for the entire building, equipment and various systems. This position works to maintain stable temperature and humidity conditions while ensuring a tied building envelop at all times. The leader in this position will oversee all housekeeping, special event set ups, and other custodial functions. 

This facilities professional will manage a large budget of $1.5 million non-personnel expenses, various service contracts and approximately 10 full-time employees who achieve optimal standards for the building and its collection. This position follows existing programs and will enhance or introduce new programs as necessary to maintain and improve the care of the building and comfort and safety of its occupants. S/he will be responsible for regulatory compliance and emergency preparedness. 

This highly visible position regularly collaborates with all Museum departments. The Director of Facilities & Engineering closely communicates with the Deputy Director for Operations & Capital Planning in all building and equipment related issues. This individual recommends improvements and develops short and long range plans and objectives, which includes projects, staffing, budgets, policies, and procedures. S/he prepares and manages the departmental budgets; provides reports for the senior management team; participates in various task forces and is a key leader of the Green Team. S/he continually monitors the BAS to ensure the Museum achieves its energy management goals, while maintaining stable conditions. The position is the liaison between the Museum and various services provided by the City of Baltimore. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

The BMA requires a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management or other related field. The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years experience in the facilities management or operations field with the last 5-7 years emphasizing plant engineering. We require 3-5 years of facilities management experience. We strongly encourage candidates with previous Museum or hospitality experience to apply. Having a 1st Grade Stationary Engineering and HVAC master license for the state of Maryland is highly desirable. The candidate must have solid understanding of and hands on experience in managing large plant operations, with a complex building HVAC, and energy management systems. Previous experience with Signal, Network 8000 BAS system is a plus. 

This is a hands-on management position and requires excellent trouble shooting skills, quickly responding to emergencies and providing repairs to the equipment and systems when needed. This leader must have great written and oral communication skills. The candidate must be creative, service oriented, extremely organized. S/he must be able to plan and manage multiple projects, handle competing priorities and stressful situations, and meet deadlines. This position requires working a flexible schedule, as the job frequently requires responding to after hours and weekend emergencies. The candidate must be proficient in using Microsoft Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, & Outlook.
