Director of Operations and Special Initiatives

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza seeks a dynamic and energetic museum professional to serve as the Director of Operations and Special Initiatives during an exciting, transformative period in the Museum's history. This position serves a key role on the senior management team, working closely with museum board, staff and consultants. This position will help lead the museum through implementation of the institutional strategic plan and help oversee master facility planning initiatives. The Director of Operations and Special Initiatives will also serve as the museum's liaison on institutional projects and collaborations with the City of Dallas and with Dallas County.

Major areas of management include oversight of all facets of building and ground operations (facilities, housekeeping and maintenance, security and safety, parking, and contract management). The Director of Operations and Special Initiatives will provide strong leadership in these areas, as well as lead project teams in the execution of institutional projects that cross all areas of the museum. 

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree with a minimum of five to eight years in a senior management position within a large museum, arts and cultural non-profit organization. We are seeking a candidate that can demonstrate a solid understanding and knowledge of museum facilities, space needs and usage, as well as the ability to work with architects, designers, exhibit developers and contractors. The position requires that the candidate have excellent oral and written communication, mentoring and resource management skills, the ability to think creatively and strategically, supervisory experience, ability to successfully mediate and negotiate with individuals and groups both internally and externally. Experience with strategic planning, strong project and budget management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations and meet tight deadlines is required.
